Seymour History
Dr. Miller, a resident of the area in 1888, had his land platted into lots, streets, and avenues. He called the area Seymour Park after his good friend Horatio Seymour, a United States congressman. Seymour Elementary was named for this park and congressman on October 3, 1960. Seymour Elementary School officially opened in 1961. In 1984 the old Maywood School in downtown Ralston was closed and its students were assimilated into Seymour. In 1987 a time capsule was placed. The school saw a major remodeling project in 1990, which added a large kindergarten room, expanded media space and a new office area.
